Dr. Troy McKayI currently work as CHS Director of Digital Media Education specializing in Film and Video Production at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
In addition to my current position as an educator, I have worked in freelance film production in Los Angeles, CA for the past 15 years. In my career, I have accumulated over 20,000 hours of “on set” time. This allowed me to develop competencies in professional film procedures, commercial production, and in all stages of the production cycle. I have worked for ABC, CBS and NBC as well as other major studios. A few of the positions I have held are camera technician, sound technician, producer, production manager, production designer, art department coordinator, set dresser, studio stage manager, 1st AD, 2nd AD, and utility rigger. |
My working knowledge of content production is supported by my education. I have studied producing, editing, directing, acting, script analysis, film history, post-production, cinematography and production sound at UCLA. In addition have earned a PhD from Iowa State University, a Masters of Arts degree from Woodbury University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
I have experience with Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Movie Magic and other industry leading software such as Final Draft, Celtx and Avid Composer. I also have experience with equipment database inventory control systems in an academic setting. This coupled with my prior work as a stage manager has given me more then seven years of experience with maintenance and inventory systems of cinema equipment. |
